Tom Lawrence signs for Rangers as Derby County star becomes THIRD new arrival of the summer

RANGERS have snapped up Tom Lawrence on a free transfer from Derby County.

The Wales international becomes the Ibrox men’s THIRD senior signing of the summer after the arrivals of John Souttar from Hearts and Antonio Colak from PAOK.

A statement read: “Rangers Football Club are today delighted to announce the signing of forward Tom Lawrence, subject to international clearance.

“Lawrence becomes Rangers’ third acquisition this summer.

“The 28-year-old spent the last five seasons with Derby County in the English Championship, making over 180 appearances, with 60 goal contributions – scoring 35 goals and adding 25 assists.

“Born in Wrexham, Lawrence started his career at Manchester United and spent development time on loan at Carlisle United and Yeovil Town.

“He moved onto Leicester City in 2014, with further loans to Rotherham United, Blackburn Rovers, Cardiff City and Ipswich Town.

“Signing for Derby in 2017, he quickly became a regular in their side making over 44 appearances in his first season at the club and was named captain for the 2021/22 season.

A Welsh international, Lawrence has also been capped 23 times for his country.

Lawrence said: “I am delighted to have joined Rangers and I’m excited to get started.

“The club is known worldwide for its history, successes and fan base and I look forward to being part of that going forward and getting to play in front of the supporters at Ibrox.”

Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst said: “I am really pleased we have been able to secure the signing of Tom and he will further add to our attacking options.

“He has gained valuable experience over a number of years with Derby County and I look forward to working with him this season.”

Gers sporting director Ross Wilson said: “I would like to welcome Tom to Rangers, it is great to have him joining the squad this summer.

“He is another strong addition to the group ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.”
