TOM LAWRENCE says Rangers must up their game to keep their Champions League bid on track.

The ex-Derby County man helped Gio van Bronckhorst’s side to an opening day 2-1 win over Livingston ahead of tomorrow’s first leg qualifier against Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium.

Lawrence knows the first-half display wasn’t good enough and admits they can’t afford a repeat against Karel Geraerts’ men.

He said: “I’m looking forward to Tuesday, but we need to play better than we did on Saturday. If we do that I’m sure we will be fine.

“There’s more to come from us and we didn’t show the quality we should have done.

“In the second half we did, but we have to look forward now and put in a performance in every one.

Michael Stewart pinpoints reason for John Souttar's Rangers disaster debut

“Any game, whether it is the first of the season or the last, we want to win.

“We have to look to win every game. That has to be our mindset.”

Rangers beat Livingston 2-1 on Saturday to ensure that they got off to a flying start and maintain ground with Celtic who kicked off their title defence with a 2-0 win over Aberdeen.

Despite an early scare with Joel Nouble lobbing the Lions in front, Gers got back on track to get off to a winning start thanks to goals from Scott Arfield and James Tavernier.

One man who impressed was Antonio Colak despite firing a blank on his league debut.

The Croatian striker showed enough to impress Kris Boyd with an impressive header that got ruled out for offside.

SunSport’s columnist backed the striker to be quids in when it comes to goals in Gers colours.

He said: “He didn’t really have a lot to do, he wasn’t involved a lot in the play today.

“But you’ve seen there, for me there was enough to say if you do create chances he will go and head them.

“He’s playing on the shoulders of defender, he can get away from them.

“He didn’t have many touches of the ball but he was able to find the back of the net.
